Description

This refreshing Strawberry Sweet Tea recipe combines the rich flavor of black tea with a homemade strawberry syrup, creating a perfectly balanced, sweet, and fruity beverage ideal for hot days or any occasion requiring a cool drink.

Ingredients

Units Scale

Tea

  • 2 cups water
  • 8 black tea bags
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 tsp baking soda

Strawberry Syrup

  • 2 cups water
  • 4 cups strawberries, chopped
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar

Instructions

  1. Boil Water: Bring 2 cups of water to a boil in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat.
  2. Steep Tea: Remove the boiling water from heat, add the 8 black tea bags, and let them steep for 5 minutes to extract a strong tea flavor.
  3. Remove Tea Bags: Take out the tea bags carefully using tongs, squeezing them gently to extract any remaining tea.
  4. Combine Tea and Water: Transfer the brewed tea into a large pitcher and add 4 more cups of water along with 1 teaspoon of baking soda to reduce acidity and enhance flavor.
  5. Make Strawberry Syrup: In the same saucepan, add the remaining 2 cups of water, chopped strawberries, and granulated sugar. Bring this mixture to a low simmer and cook for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Cool and Strain Syrup: Remove the saucepan from heat and let the strawberry syrup cool. Then strain it through a fine mesh sieve into a small cup or pitcher, pressing to extract as much juice as possible from the berries.
  7. Mix Syrup with Tea: Pour the strawberry syrup into the large pitcher containing the tea and baking soda, then stir well to combine all flavors evenly.
  8. Serve: Pour the strawberry sweet tea over ice in glasses and serve immediately for a refreshing drink.

Notes

  • Store your strawberry sweet tea covered in the refrigerator for up to 1 week to maintain freshness.
  • Use fresh, ripe strawberries for the best natural sweetness and flavor.
  • Baking soda helps to reduce bitterness and enhance the tea’s flavor but do not exceed the recommended amount.
  • You can adjust the sugar amount to your preference, reducing for a less sweet tea or increasing for a sweeter taste.
  • For an extra touch, garnish servings with fresh strawberry slices or lemon wedges.
