Bloomin’ Apples are a delightful warm dessert featuring tender apples filled with chewy caramel squares, brushed with a buttery cinnamon sugar mixture, and served with vanilla ice cream and caramel drizzle. Perfectly baked or air-fried, this treat combines the natural sweetness and tartness of apples with the richness of caramel and cinnamon.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Apples

  • 4 apples
  • 8 chewy caramel squares

For the Butter Mixture

  • 4 Tbsp. melted butter
  • 1 Tbsp. packed brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon

Additional Ingredients

  • Cooking spray (for greasing baking dish)
  • Breyers Natural Vanilla ice cream, for serving
  • Caramel sauce, for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Oven and Butter Mixture: Preheat your oven to 375°F and grease a medium baking dish with cooking spray. In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, and ground cinnamon until well combined.
  2. Core and Slice the Apples: Slice the top off each apple, then use an apple corer to remove the core completely. If any core pieces remain, carefully remove them with a small spoon. Use a paring knife to make two circular cuts around the apple, then place the apple cut side down on a cutting board and slice crosswise carefully without cutting through the core, creating a blooming effect.
  3. Fill and Brush Apples: Place the prepared apples in the baking dish. Stuff each apple with two caramel squares inside the hollowed core. Brush the tops of each apple generously with the melted butter and sugar-cinnamon mixture.
  4. Bake the Apples: Bake the apples in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the caramel is melted inside.
  5. Serve: Serve the warm Bloomin’ Apples with a scoop of Breyers Natural Vanilla ice cream and drizzle with caramel sauce for an extra indulgent touch.
  1. Prepare Butter Mixture for Air Fryer: In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, and ground cinnamon until smooth.
  2. Core and Slice the Apples: Slice the top off each apple and core them thoroughly. Remove any remaining core pieces with a small spoon. Make two circular cuts around each apple, then slice crosswise carefully without cutting through the core, allowing it to bloom.
  3. Fill and Brush Apples: Stuff each apple with two caramel squares, then brush the butter mixture over the apples’ tops.
  4. Air Fry the Apples: Place the prepared apples in the basket of the air fryer. Cook at 350°F for about 20 minutes until tender and caramel is melted.
  5. Serve: Serve the apples warm with vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of caramel sauce.

Notes

  • You can use any variety of apple, but firmer apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp hold up better when baked or air fried.
  • Be careful when slicing the apples to not cut all the way through to the bottom, so the apple maintains its shape and blooms nicely.
  • If you prefer, substitute caramel squares with caramel sauce, but the squares help keep the caramel nicely contained inside the apple pockets.
  • Cooking times may vary depending on the size and type of apples used.
  • Serve immediately for the best warm, gooey texture paired with cold vanilla ice cream.
